Signalize supports Smart Commute Week
Smart Commute Week is designed to raise the profile of the eHampshire Partnership/HCC led MATiSSE initiative:

|
The MATiSSE initiative forms part of and supports the SEEDA (South East England Development Agency)
Regional Economic Strategy (RES) which aspires to improve the productivity and global competitiveness
of the SE region as a whole. This is to be achieved through sustainable, 'smart growth' measures aimed
at reducing the region's carbon footprint by 2016.
MATiSSE is in the form of a 'reduce' strategy which challenges traditional office based, fixed 9 to 5 working and instead encourages smarter, technology enabled more flexible ways of working that include variable hours, occasional home and mobile working. As with SCW 2007, this year's Smart Commute Week had a different commuting theme for each day, including for the first time a Business Travel Day focus. SCW 2008 adopted a 'one in five' theme to highlight the overall programme aim to have an extra one in five people work from home or work flexible hours at least one day in five. A specific aim of this year's campaign was to increase the number of businesses who actively (rather than passively) support SCW. This may be through their own initiatives, e.g. a 'bike to work' day or a focus on 'car-sharing'. |
MATiSSE Click here or on the image above to view the video highlights of SCW 2008. This will open a new browser window and the film will start to play automatically. If you are using a fat broadband connection to view the film it will play seamlessly. With a more modest connection we recommend that you pause the film and let the download bar get a couple of centimetres ahead of the play cursor to enjoy uninterrupted delivery. "During Smart Commute Week 2008, the Signalize cameras followed a few of the many local organisations - large and small, in the public, private and voluntary sectors - who, like us, ran their own initiatives in support of the 2008 MATiSSE Smart Commute Week. You can now make your own smart-commuting and smart-working move, by taking a look at this film to find out what a ferry, a cow, a river, a greenhouse, a folding-bike and a bus have in common. You'll also find out how YOUR organisation can get involved in the 2009 Smart Commute Week initiative." |
| In all over 200 local organisations pro-actively supported Smart Commute Week 2008 with their own in-company 'smarter-commuting and smarter-working' initiatives, an increase of nearly 50% over 2007. You can watch a video of the highlights by clicking on the play link (opposite). |

In addition to promoting Smart Commute Week Ocean FM even changed their programme schedule on Smarter/Flexible
Working Day. East Hampshire District Council staff walked to their Petersfield meetings on Business Travel Reduction Day
whilst countless thousands of employees simply left the car behind, worked from home or car-shared as part of the Smart
Commute Week 'one in five challenge'. Meantime the five daily Smart Commute Week Live webcasts are estimated to have saved
.39 tonnes of CO2.
